Walking the Wetlands

We had planned on taking Dakota (Samara's new dog) to the beach for a walk, but the wind had come up, and in all honesty neither Samara or I wanted to be sand-blasted-nor did she want to have to spend the next week brushing sand out of Dakota's coat (she is a husky) so we found ourselves wandering around the Edithvale-Seaford Wetlands instead(the Seaford end) We were surprised to find that the wetlands was listed as a 'wetland of international importance' which I had no idea about as it looks like a lot of other wetland areas in Victoria. (When came home I researched and found that is of international importance because it is the last remaining area of what was known as the Carrum Carrum Swamp, it supports the Australasian Bittern a bird that is threatened in Victoria and home to six other bird species that are on the threatened list.

The wetland area is also home to a mob of eastern grey kangaroos, but we didn't see them while we were walking although it would have been interesting to see how Dakota reacted to them if she had seen them.
