I am a little obsessed with South Korea at the moment (my kids would say a LOT obsessed) and I've wanted to visit for some time; well to be honest since I watched M.A.S.H as a kid (and I know that the "Korea" you see in this is not the real Korea) but it didn't stop me from wanting to discover it for myself, but like so many other things of my to-do list I am not sure I will ever knock them off but it doesn't make me keep hoping. I watch a lot of K-Dramas and variety/travel shows and they have shown me so many places that I want to explore and so many foods that I want to eat which is so frustrating when the bank account screams NOOOOO!!!!!!!!
So I decided if I can't get to South Korea at the moment than South Korea is coming to me....in the form of food :)
I love to cook and lately my obsession has turned to cooking Korean food and when I had a recent birthday I decided that instead of going out to eat I was going to cook, including seaweed soup a traditional birthday food and tteukboki 떡볶이 (rice cakes)
and I was pretty impressed with my version of Korean which makes me want to eat the real thing in South Korea even more.
So as I raise a glass of soju to celebrate my birthday I hope that one day I can be raising a glass of soju in the streets of Seoul someday in the future,
