Things I Wish I Had Done In Taiwan

This is an easy thing to say about what I could have done in Taiwan or what I wish I had done....which turns into a to-do list if I ever get the chance to come back to Taiwan again.

The first thing is spend more time here, we had only planned on having a 'stop-over' here as our trip was to South Korea not Taiwan so we knew straight away that there would not be enough time to see everything that Taiwan has to offer but it gave us a taste to see if we wanted to come back.

And guess what......I want to come back and explore more (I have to say I am extremely grateful to Jenna for making the suggestion to come to Taiwan so she could add another stamp in her passport).

1/ Have tea in the famous 'Spirited Away' tea-house in Jiufen (as we ran out of time) and stay at least for one night to enjoy the town by night.

2/ Go to Taipei Zoo (and if I am in the neighbourhood go back up the Maokong gondola in better weather for the views).

3/ Visit Taiwan's oldest city Tainan and look at how each culture has formed this amazing city, from the indigenous peoples to the Dutch, Chinese and Japanese invaders who made their mark on the city.

4/ Not sure if this counts as I have already eaten there but go back to Din Tao Fung and have twice or three times as many soup dumplings and a whole lot more from the menu.

5/ Create a new to eat list including eating at the toilet restaurant in Taipei even if it is a little off-putting.

6/ The city of Kaohsiung and the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas on Lotus Lake, which is probably on any advertisement piece for Taiwan.

7/ The national parks, beautiful beaches and islands that are just part of the stunning scenery that Taiwan has to offer.

8/ Explore some of the places that the indigenous people still call home and see how their culture differs and how they are trying to keep their customs and beliefs in this modern world.

9/We saw this video just before we left for Taiwan and unfortunately didn't have the time to get up here( we packed so much in our three days in Taiwan we couldn't fit any more in) but we would love to have seen the abandoned UFO village in the north of Taiwan so maybe next time,

10/Taroko Gorge /National Park with it's amazing scenery and walking trails, temples and bridges. It can be done in a day trip from Taipei but it is recommended to spend more time here just to experience all that it has to offer.

11/Sun Moon Lake and The Formosan Aboriginal Cultural village which can be reached by a ropeway from the lake, which is supposed to be a spectacular sight to see.

12/Climb Elephant Mountain for views of the city and Taipei 101.

13/Go to the port city of Keelung and experience the city and the night markets here too and this would knock off something from my cruise list as I have seen a few that have Keelung as one of their ports and it looks impressive from either land or sea.

14/ The museums and temples of Taichung City.

15/ Beitou, on the outskirts of Taipei, for the hot springs.

16/ More night markets, like Shilin (which we missed this time) because the food is fabulous and there is such a great atmosphere.

17/ As we were short on time we missed seeing some of the exhibitions like the one at the National Palace Museum which I would like to see next time we are in town

and I am sure there are plenty of other things that I would be able to add about this delightful country.
