After our emotionally gruelling trip to Auschwitz we had a physically gruelling trip to Wieliczka Salt Mine and it was amazing and somehow my knees survived the endless stairs down (53 stories) to the mine shafts below There are about 3kms of tunnels (and more stairs to negotiate) to see some amazing salt carvings and chapels below the surface. (Weddings are even performed here and when we arrived we saw the wedding party going downstairs (they got to use the elevator and not take the stairs) but I am not sure which of the many chapels carved into the salt that they used because we didn't see them after that, There are so many tunnels and different sections that are not covered by the guide that you could easily get lost without one. It was a fascinating place and well worth the visit and built up our appetites for yet more pierogi and gulasz for me and meatballs for Mikayla in fascinating little restaurant that is not easy to find unless you know it is there, (this is when my over-researching comes in hand
