food and more food

London was nostalgia and comfort food and although the pub food at the places we went to was a lot more up-market than the pub food I ate 28years ago it still had that homey feel and I liked it. I mean who can resist 'toad in the hote' that looks as good as the one above does.

I had been hanging out for a "St Clements' which is an orange juice and bitter lemon drink I used to drink a lot when I lived in London and was very happy to have one over here (Mikayla didn't like it because it was too tart for her taste)
I couldn't resist a good old fashioned pie with mash, mushy peas and liquor (parsley sauce) which was delicious.

At the studio for the Harry Potter Magic I ate a Messy Dog which was incredibly messy and instead of drinking the butter beer I opted for the ice-cream version and I wasn't disappointed it was yummy.

My last meal in London was at Luton Airport and gave me a real Christmassy feel and tasted pretty damned good too, it was a turkey and trimmings toastie and a gingerbread and cream latte, and it definetly made me think of Christmas.

My first taste of Poland was interesting, an apple and mint drink

which was refreshing but left a weird after-taste but then it got better with my first taste of Polish Pierogi (dumplings)

which were so good and I imagine I will be having them more than once to compare, and the most amazing soup which was beef, vegetables, red-beans and walnuts, it was hearty and very satisfying.

Next on the menu were delicious 'chimney cakes' which are hard to

describe but very tasty even though mine was a simple vanilla flavour, the cake doesn't know whether it is a cake, bread or pastry but it tastes good so I am not complaining.
Dinner tonight was a different type of pierogi with a cheese and potato filling with an onion relish

and

cabbage rolls which had an intense mushroom flavour and not quite what I was expecting but good never-the-less.
Pretzels and coffee in the early morning chill was a great way to start the day

and what a better way to finish it than with yet more piergoi,

chicken meatballs

or gulasz

While walking around Wawel Castle we decided it was finally time to eat Polish pastries and I had cheesecake, which was very different to the type I eat at home, topped with a sort of meringue topping.

Then our last meal in Krakow was of course pierogi (this time fried and I think it was the best I had while we were there.)

Pork knuckle which was so tender it just fell off the bone with spicy mustard, horseradish sauce, mash and pickled cabbage finished off our Krakow eating adventures.

Prague was a little chilly so to warm us up we had some cesnecka (garlic soup which was delicious)

and more gulas this time with bread dumplings..

.very different from the Polish version but equally as yummy.
At the top of Petrin Hill was a cafe with delightful views and equally delightful food,

I had a great meat and potato soup with beer bread and a pork sandwich which certainly filled the spot

and the hot chocolate warmed me

up to set out exploring more in the chilly Prague afternoon.Karlovy Vary gave me a variation on goulash

and more
