Legend has it that King Charles IV (who had a dodgy leg) was hunting with his hounds and followed them into the hot springs and his leg was healed. Seeing the importance of the water and it's healing properties Charles ordered the construction of houses and healing baths and the town of Karlovy Vary was founded (around 1360) It is 130km west of Prague and our destination for today. Most people when they come to Prague and decided to head out on a day trip head to Cesky Krumov which is supposed to be incredibly picturesque but very touristy and I thought of going somewhere less so and I wasn't disappointed. Karlovy Vary isa pretty little spa town (in fact it is so much more than that with a population of over 65,000 people but everyone comes for the small spa area in the center of the town which consists of 15 different springs which are open to the public of which you can drink from 12 of them. It is interesting how the taste and heat vary in springs just metres apart. I like mineral water so was happy to try some and if it can make my knee feel better even for the rest of the day I will sing it's praises. Our guide for the morning was very interesting (it ended up being a private tour as only Mikayla and I were in the minibus) I think he would have had some interesting stories to tell about life under Communist rule as he had very disparaging remarks about all things Russian (and there are still many remnants of that era In the Czech Republic today)
