I think Venice is telling Mikayla to come back and visit her, because the poor thing woke up this morning with an eye so swollen she couldn't open it so she was confined to the hotel with a cold compress on her eye until the antihistamine kicked in while I went out to explore. The Grand Canal was back in action (yesterday with the tide so high a lot of the water traffic was at a standstill for safety reasons) but the water buses, taxis, private craft and gondolas were out in force today and I took a water-bus and sat at the front to enjoy watching the canal bustling with life.At every turn of the canal there is something amazing to see A couple of my highlights of the day were seeing a couple with their dog on a boat and the fire-fighters responding to an emergency.r After a couple of hours I went back to the hotel to pick up MIkayla who could open her eye and we set back out, on another water bus to St Mark's Square. I remember the first time I came to Venice you couldn't walk through the square without stepping on a pigeon, know you are trying to avoid teh biggest seagulls I have ever seen (and they are nasty beggars too, swooping on people and they are trying to find ways to get rid of them) We spent the next few hours just walking, down lanes and over bridges taking in as many sights and sounds of Venice that we could before finding a lovely restaurant where we ate gnocchi, pizza and spaghetti....all completely delicious. It's a shame that our time in Venice is over, (flight changes which gave us an extra day in Prague cut a day in Venice) but it has been a wonderful adventure and I am left with the same impression of Venice that I did the first time I came to Venice over 20 years ago, it is magical and if I ever am lucky enough to get the chance to come again I think I will still feel the same!!! in Venice
