Wednesday Naples and Pompeii were on the agenda for the day, and it was a long one, we left the hotel at 6,30am and got in at 8.30pm, but it was amazing and well worth the time and money spent on the trip.. Naples we didn't see a lot of, we had a quick walking tour around the Piazza del Plebisicito, a smidge of the Quatiere Spagnoli to the Castel Nuovo with a lovely lunch in between but the highlight of the day was Pompeii. Buried under millions of tonnes of ash in 79ACE Pompeii remained hidden until the 16th century, and in 1748 the first excavations took place, but there is still about a third of it to be uncovered. The city was amazingly preserved and it doesn't take much to imagine what life would have been like living in this decadent city. from the minute you walk through the gate and into the areas that the gladiators trained, to the theatres were great tragedies and comedies were played out, to the store fronts and the bakeries and fast food stores. The wealthy houses with their many rooms and lavish gardens to the brothel, Roman baths, temples and courts, it was truly amazing walking the paths of the Pompeiians, One thing I have found sad about traveling in Europe is the fact that so many places are guarded by armed guards(, and we are talking machine guns not side arms) not because of the treasures they hold but because of the times we live in
