Quiet day in Vegas today...well as quiet as Vegas can be with poker machines going and sirens and people talking about where they are going and what they have won/drunk/seen/eaten and music and people trying to give you vouchers/time share/discounts/cds etc etc Samara and I must have been knackered because neither of us were awake before 9am, so by the time we were showered and breakfasted we didn't head out until nearly 11am. Breky was good, but didn't like having to go through the casino to get to the food court, because it stinks of cigarette smoke (they can smoke in most casinos over here) and stale alcohol, mmmmm appetitizing,
Walked the Strip, which is very different during the
day, I am amazed at the number of kids here as I don't really think of it as a family holiday destination although I do know a lot of the hotels and casinos to cater for families.
The Bellagio water show was pretty, and looking forward to seeing it at night in all it's colourful glory.
We ducked in and out of casinos, looked at some shops and went to the ticket booth Tix 4 Tonight to see if we could fit in a couple more shows while we are here, (I checked my email and YAY we are going to Bryce Canyon on Sunday,it had been uncertain because the tour company doesn't operate the tour for less than 5 people ) We don't want to get tickets for Sunday or Monday in case we get delayed out of town, and we already have tickets to shows tonight and tomorrow so we needed to get tickets to fit in with the ones we already have. Unfortunately Samara misses out on the drag shows she wanted to go to as they are 'dark' at the moment
and the only one we could have gone to is on one of the days we have out of Vegas....ooops.
Our requirements were something fun, something that had an early show and something that was close to the other casinos where we are going to afterwards, Aria tonight and Caesars Palace tomorrow, and we managed to get tickets to performances at the V Theatre on both nights, which is at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.
I think Vegas is a better walking city since the last time I was here, as there are plenty of overpasses and you don't have to go through casinos all the time. I still can't get over how warm it is after the last few days of freezing our butts off (and we were told that it's the warmest February in Vegas in years)
We walked up to the Planet Hollywood (should have taken about 15 mins but took longer as we dodged touters) to see our first show V the Variety Show.....fun show with lots of 'variety', singers, dancers, comedians, acrobats. We were told that the V signs acts that are up and coming or on their way out and I think we saw a couple of both, but hey it was fun so that was all that mattered.
From the V -Theatre we made our way to Aria, which is the home of Zarkana which is a wonderful
show about a magician who has lost his love and his magic, and he begs to the gods to get it/her back. Like most Cirque du Soleils is zany and weird and there is so much to see, and you're never quite sure where to look, and you always wonder if you are going to miss something.
The Aria hotel has a good vibe to it and I think that if Samara was here with a group of friends her own age (and a bigger budget) this would have been a perfect hotel for her to stay in ( I kind of liked it too)
Vegas is so in your face, and I think everyone should come at least once in their lives, but it's exhausting and after the 20+min walk back to the hotel dodging touters again I am ready for my bed.
(It amazes me how people approach couples and give the man cards to strip clubs and call girls in pornographic poses while there is a woman on their arm....different if it's a group of males but can't you see they've already got a woman with them. When you see the cards strewn across the ground during the day you question the 'family friendly' atmosphere, wouldn't want a young child of mine getting an eyeful of some of those pictures!!!)
