San Diego Zoo

Elephants and more elephants...what a way to spend a day!!!!

Samara and I had an early start again today....to catch the bus that dropped us off at San Diego Zoo

...which is about 2 hours drive south of Anaheim...we dropped people at Seaworld first and then about 6 of us were dropped at the zoo and told we'd be picked up here at 4.30pm...as it was hotter than we'd expected I thought Seaworld and the water rides might have been fun, but once I was at the zoo....I am nuts for elephants and can spend hours just looking at them alone much to the frustration of anyone who goes to

the zoo with me (sorry Samara)

(I can not wait to see them in Africa....especially as they are going to be so much bigger then the Asiatic Elephants, which I already think are awesome!!!)

I really like this zoo because of the size and the variety of animals here, I like the bus ride you get round and the information they give you and the cable

car that takes you from one side to the other....it's a great view not only of the zoo but outside of it too.

I do think that San Diego Zoo need to take a look at some of their enclosures and others like the ones at Melbourne Zoo and see the differences....(we have some great enclosures at our zoo which try to give the animals more of a taste for the environment they come from or should have come from if they weren't zoo bred) I think they need a little more greenery and some other things to challenge the animals to stop them from getting bored which is not a good thing for them.

Favourites.....mmmmmm I wonder :) could that be the elephants?

Six hours at a zoo for some people is hard but not for me and certainly not here, as I said it is so big, and there is plenty to do with the bus and the cable car and the animals.... and of course the food.....that was really good and not as expensive as at the cafes in ours.

Love seeing the Polar Bears and the Pandas because we don't have them at Melbourne Zoo, and they both look so cuddly and fierce at the same time. Was amazed at the size of the male polar bear....and he

doesn't even have the winter bulk that polar bears have out in the wild. The photo of Samara to the right is to scale, he's pretty damn tall...and I think she'd make a good meal for him :) There were some things that surprised me about the zoo.I'm sure I didn't miss then because we walked the length and breadth of the place, and rode a bus and the cable car, but I didn't see a lot of the smaller primates/monkeys and I love to watch them at play almost as much as elephants. But the Gorillas

and Orangutans certainly made up for it...those animals are just so amazing and if people don't believe in evolution they haven't sat and watched them for hours on end...I'm sure I see characteristics in some of my family and friends (and myself LOL)

And of course there was the zoo shop, which I have to confess I love browsing through...so many cute things so when 4.28 came we were running out of the zoo and back to the bus for Anaheim...back at the hotel by about 7pm after other people were dropped at their hotels first...but hey I didn't mind as we were sightseeing and seeing some of the other hotels on the way...dinner at Mimi's again....yes we should have found something else but why when the food is good and after all the walking around the zoo we couldn't be bothered going to far afield...chicken pot pie and the best desert a sampler pack with apple crisp, chocolate brownie and bread and butter pudding....mmm mmm

Stomachs full and feet sore it's time for bed, hot chocolate from the pod coffee machine in the room and TV and an earlyish night as Samara and I have another busy day tomorrow.
